Using Groups to Assign Materials |

One of the major uses for having groups in the first place is to assign materials to an object. Have you ever wondered how it is that Poser figures have so many different materials (i.e. eyelashes, eyebrows, fingernails, etc.) assigned to the same object? The group tool is the key to doing that kind of thing.
- Make sure group_2 is the current group and click the "Assign Material..." button.
- You will get a dialog asking you to name the new material. For this example, you can use any name you want. I used "material_2". Since the ball did not previously have a material called "material_2", a new material will be created.
- Once you have assigned a material, that material will become available in the normal "Materials..." dialog that you are probably used to using to assign colors and texture maps to an object or figure.

If, for example, you were doing this on an existing figure and wanted to assign a material that already existed (such as "skin") to another part of the figure, you would have to be careful to type the name of the material in exactly, including capitalization (i.e. "Skin" is not the same as "skin"). Unfortunately there is no popup menu to select from existing materials, so you just have to know what to type. Use the "Materials..." dialog as a reference to find the names of pre-existing materials. |
