Selecting Polygons |
| |
The group tool offers several ways to select and deselect polygons on an object. Most often you will use the mouse:
- To select an individual polygon with the mouse, click once on that polygon.
- To select multiple polygons, drag a box around those polygons with the mouse. Be careful to start dragging outside the object or else you might move the object unintentionally.
- To deselect using the mouse, hold the control key while clicking or dragging.
- The "Add All", "Remove All", "Invert Group", "Include Group...", "Remove Group..." and "Include Material..." buttons offer additional means of changing the selected polygons. More on these later.
For this step:
- Click and drag with the mouse to select a group of polygons. A box will appear as you are dragging the mouse, and everything inside the box gets selected. You will see the polygons turn red as they are selected. You should probably try to select the same group I did for purposes of the tutorial.

| Q. |
How come sometimes when I click on one polygon I end up selecting a bunch of adjacent ones that I do not want? |
| A. |
Poser bug? Honestly I am not sure, but this is the single greatest frustration for me when using the group tool. If you get into this situation, try zooming in closer, changing the angle of view, changing the spot where you click the mouse, etc. If you select and deselect long enough you'll eventually get what you want, but this can be very un-fun. You probably will not encounter this problem with the ball prop, but if you use the group tool on a more complex object odds are that you will. |
| Tip: |
The undo (ctrl-Z or apple-Z) command has no effect on the group tool, so forget it. Save often, and get used to using the control key and mouse to deselect unwanted polygons. |

| The red polygons are now included in group_1. The black polygons are not. |

| An excellent character-driven sci-fi story. I did the book cover illustration, "At the Window". |
